Disabled Facilities Grant

There is a disabled facilities grant which is offered from the council if you are disabled and need to make some changes to your home.  You may need things such as a wet room, improvement to access rooms and facilities such as a stairlift or access to your property via a ramp etc.

How much you receive does depend on your household income and savings. To apply for this, you need to apply through your council - see link https://www.gov.uk/disabled-facilities-grants

The process was very easy, once the application had been completed online, an assessor visited our home to discuss what improvements could be made and what changes would make my life a lot easier living with mito.  It was agreed that a stairlift would be installed as I often get tired using the stairs and as a safety point of view, this made sense to add to our stairs.  We also had a wet room added which provided myself with accessible facilities to help with washing and moving around. Grab handles, a seat and sensor taps were all fitted.   They also added a slide and hide eye level oven to help with cooking and not bending over due to my eyes and also a induction hob was fitted as it was dangerous and unsafe to use a gas one.
